The story so far

Still daft.
Just older.

Daft-a-Peth is what my Gran used to call me as a toddler.

I was always messing about, always finding something to grab my attention and make her laugh. Not much has changed—my wife now calls me a functional adult toddler, so I’m still Daft-a-Peth.

Since then I’ve been diagnosed with SMA Type 3, a degenerative muscle condition. I’ve been lucky: a small percentage of people respond well to a trial medication, and for me it has helped stop the deterioration.

In recent years I’ve managed to get back playing golf. I also had a bit of a mad mid-life career change, going from engineering into the betting industry. I now work for an American-based independent odds compiler and trading house.

Most of what I do is heavily protected by NDAs, but I’ve written betting pieces under pseudonyms. I enjoy it. Often I need to write just to get ideas out of my head.

This site is where all of that comes together: football, betting, golf, Yorkshire-ness, food and whatever else I’m into at the time.

It’s not a tipping website.

If that sounds like your thing, you’ll get it.
